Mongolia and the Netherlands are rapidly changing. Mongolia is on the eve of a mining boom and more people are becoming city-dwellers. The world comes in through satellite dishes and nomads are challenged to integrate it with traditional life. At the same time the Netherlands are confronted by limits to wealth and environment. New media change our daily lives while we become more nomadic. How can we respond to these developments? What can we learn from each other?
Personal curiosity and sustainable design. Since my master Interior Design I am fascinated by this question: what do we need to live and thrive, while coexisting with our planet? Not just the bare minimum, but where can we find abundance? I think that the key lies in smarter ways of using what we have. Nomads seem to be experts in doing with what you have, especially in using their environment. Therefore I suspect that they could be guides for designers and users towards a sustainable future.
